Sheba’s Surprise
Captain's Log: Table Time ~ Monday, September 15th, 2025 ~ Vespers
Unwell today with the flu or something. Throat very sore. And table time was… difficult! After hearing the highlights from everyone’s day, I read a long portion. We reflected a bit on Solomon’s place in God’s long line of promising blessing to his people on condition of obedience and warning of curse and exile for disobedience. This reminds us how badly we need a righteous King who will win blessing for us in a perfect kingdom.
So goes the king, so goes the people. If this king turns aside from the faithfulness of David, the people will turn aside to false gods and be ruined. I reminded us of our Joshua 24 song: “Choose this day, whom you will serve, the gods of the nations or the Lord of all the earth.”
We spent a little time discussing types - the way Old Testament pictures point forward to Jesus and new covenant realities. Looking through what Sheba saw to the new covenant, and even the new creation, we see the glories and abundance of the kingdom of Christ. We also see his unrivalled wisdom. It would be worth pondering long over Christ's ability to ‘answer all our questions.’ That there is ‘nothing hidden from Him that He cannot explain to us’ (1 Kings 10:3). But I was fading, and the children were a little distracted.
I gave thanks for Jesus and His kingdom. I prayed we would appreciate Him and look forward to the glories and abundance of the kingdom when it comes in fullness.
